so….
I could talk all day about upgrades, but I think Beyonce tells it (and looks) best:
As always, keep your eyes glued to our contests page for new contests and ways to win great prizes! (more on that coming soon)
As most of you might have noticed by now, we are running a pair of contests with Seattle’s own Blue Scholars, brought to you by Rawkus and MASSLINE! As a huge Scholars fan, I am ridiculously excited to have this opportunity to help promote them here on Jamglue, and get them more of the national attention they deserve!
The song is “Fire for the People” off their recently released album Bayani:
All this amazing music comes from just two super-talented guys: Geologic, the emcee, and Sabzi, the deejay and producer. So to give a nod to this classic hip-hop format, we’ve got an MC Contest, where you add your guest verse to Geologic’s chorus, and a DJ Contest, where you show DJ Sabzi your mixing skills! Geo and Sabzi will be choosing the final winners.
In fact…
At the halfway point of the contest a few weeks ago, they picked their current favorites, just to keep things interesting! Here they are:
And wait - it gets better - we even turned them into ringtones, so that everyone can be ringing fresh this fall! Be sure to check out and download the ringtones, and stay tuned for more as the contest goes on!
The contest closes to entries on September 7th and the voting period will run until September 23rd.
Enter the contests and show your support for some amazing hip-hop, and for Jamglue’s home, the Pacific Northwest!
As promised, you can now send any mix on Jamglue to your loved (or hated) ones as a Valentine’s Day card! You can either make your own personalized variation of the (Anti-)Valentine’s Choir from the V-day pages (lover/hater), or you can simply send any mix by visiting its mix page and hitting the “Valentine” link near the top.
You can add personal text to the card and send it to anyone as an e-mail, or to a Jamglue user as a private Jamglue message. Here’s an example:
Lastly, I want to wrap up this post with an awesome rap by one of our star users:
Ladies and gentlemen, plug in your microphones — now you can record directly into Jamglue! A couple days ago we added a recorder to our upload page, and it looks like this:
Here at Jamglue we want you to hit BIG RED BUTTONS as much as possible, so give in to the urge and try recording something! Once you’re done you can immediately preview the results. Then when you SAVE, we add the recording as a new track to your Jamglue account.
After listening to Peace and Hate so much lately, I couldn’t help but try inserting myself into it. With the original song piped into my headphones, I recorded a couple of snippets and replaced John’s vocal in my version of the mix. The results:
It was fun, but I won’t be quitting my day job. (We’ll keep making the tools — your job is to make the music!) And with that folks, start your recordings!
It’s been our number one requested feature, but we did it because we wanted to, not because you told us to: tempo changing and beat matching!
That’s right, a few days ago we added the ability to speed up and slow down your tracks to make them match better. You’ll see that there’s now a speed setting for each track. At 1.0, the track plays at its usual speed, at 0.75 it plays at three quarter speed, and at 2.0 it plays twice as fast. You get the idea. If the track has a tempo set, we’ll show you what the new BPM is after each speed change.
If you just want to make all your tracks have the same tempo (not a bad idea), we’ve also added a button at the top to do the math for you. Pressing it will set each track’s speed to whatever it needs to be to match BPMs with the mix’s BPM.
So for example, we could combine two great Creative Commons remix contests by taking the drums from Peace & Hate (100 BPM), and adding a few melodic pieces from Colors Shifting (60 BPM), and putting them together at 90 BPM:
Your faithful Jamglue team has been working tirelessly since our invite-only beta back in October to add some new bells and whistles to help enhance the Jamglue experience.
If you haven’t checked us out in awhile, here’s what we’ve been up to:
Looking for a little Jamglue 101? Check out our new and improved tour and help page!
Want to immediately find out what’s been happening with your stuff on Jamglue? Our new message notification system (the envelope icon in the top right of the page) lets you know immediately when exciting things happen (like somebody becoming a fan of yours or using one of their tracks in their mix). If you’re really dedicated to the cause, you can choose to receive these messages by email as well.
Want to tell your friend what your REALLY think of their new remix? We’ve added a private messaging feature that lets you send notes to your friends without embarrassing them in front of that cute guy or girl with the hot mix.
Not ready for the world to hear your musical genius? We’ve added a new “draft mode” that lets you choose exactly when other people can start listening to your mixes.
Can’t wait to spread the Jamglue love? We’ve created an embeddable player for all your blog and MySpace needs. Even better, we also keep track of where your music is embedded (and send you a message immediately when your stuff gets embedded somewhere new)!
Want to share your music with people who don’t have accounts on Jamglue yet? No problem! We now let unregistered users use Jamglue (with the catch that they need to create an account before saving mixes or uploading tracks).
Good enough for ya? Well, there’s even more good news! We’ve partnered with Nettwerk Records to bring you an exclusive remix contest for Jamglue users! Starting today through January 6th, log on to Jamglue to create your own remix of The Submarines track “Peace & Hate.” The acclaimed LA-based band is giving the power to the fans to create their own remix of the group’s new single. If the chance for Jamglue fame and glory doesn’t entice you, maybe the cool prizes will.
We hope you log on to check out the exciting new happenings here at Jamglue, and we really appreciate you being part of the Jamglue community. Keep gluing it to the man!
